1. What is the deadline for becoming a member in order to vote?
2. What is the deadline for nominations of candidates?
3. When are candidates subject to the equal time protections of the fair campaign provisions?
4. When will ballots be mailed?
5. When can members expect ballots to arrive in their homes?
6. When do completed ballots need to be returned?
7. What is the deadline for the National Election Supervisor to certify the Local Station Board elections?
8. Is there a required percentage of voter participation for an election to be valid?
9. What if not enough ballots are received by the deadline?

1. What is the deadline for becoming a member in order to vote?

A. A listener member must have made the financial or volunteer labor contribution required between September 1, 2003 and August 31, 2004. The contribution must be completed by August 31, 2004 rather than merely pledged.

2. What is the deadline for nominations of candidates?

A. A prospective candidate must have filed his or her petition signatures, candidate statement, fair campaign provision statement, and demographic declaration form by September 25, 2004. The Local Election Supervisor must have received it by that date, and postmarks are not controlling.

3. When are candidates subject to the equal time protections of the fair campaign provisions?
However, should you run for a seat on the LSB, you should be aware that significant airtime during the nomination period (July 25, 2004-September 25, 2004) could come into question regardless of when you submit your completed Nomination Packet. So, if you think you might run for the LSB, it is in your best interest to self-manage your airtime and avoid talk of campaigning while on the air.

A. Members are covered by the equal time provisions once they have filed their petitions and the Local Election Supervisor has certified their candidacy.

4. When will ballots be mailed?

A. Ballots will be mailed on October 15, 2004.

5. When can members expect ballots to arrive in their homes?

A. According to our mailing house, ballots should be in homes within four to seven days of the mailing date.

6. When do completed ballots need to be returned?

A. Ballots must be received by the Local Election Supervisor by November 15, 2004 to be counted. Postmarks are not controlling. Voters would be wise to allow several business days for the return mail.

7. What is the deadline for the National Election Supervisor to certify the Local Station Board elections?

A. December 15, 2004.

8. Is there a required percentage of voter participation for an election to be valid?

A. Yes. The Bylaws require that at least 10% of eligible member listeners cast votes for the election to be valid. A minimum of 25% of staff must return their ballots for the staff election to be valid.

9. What if not enough ballots are received by the deadline?

A. The Bylaws and the court set election schedule allow for an extension of the election close date in such an eventuality. If a Local Station Board election fails to achieve a quorum of votes by the Election Close Date, the Close Date for that station area only shall be extended for two weeks. The ballots shall be counted and the election results for that station area shall be certified by December 15, 2004.
If no quorum of ballots is obtained by the extended date, then those delegates whose terms would have expired upon the election of new delegates shall remain in office until the next regularly scheduled delegate election.
