BRIEF: Locally... the Immigration and Naturalization Service is looking toward an expansion this year.

The Houston Contract Detention Facility, near Houston Intercontinental Airport, will be expanded by up to 400 beds. That will give the immigration service the ability to jail up to 900 people at a time.

Although the facility is currently run by the Corrections Corporation of America, the nations largest provider of out-sourced corrections management, INS spokesperson, Karl Rustik said CCA is only one of several bidders on the expansion project.

The contract may be awarded as early as mid-February.
