BRIEF: The largest government reorganization in U.S. history will take place on Saturday, March 1, as the newly created Homeland Security Department incorporates 22 agencies and 170,000.workers into its fold.

The Immigration and Naturalization Service or INS technically ceases to exist today. Its roles of enforcement, customs and border protection, and service are being broken up into three separate bureaus.

Although each of the three newly created bureau's will serve a different purpose, they will all fall under the Department of Homeland Security.

Undersecretary of Homeland Security and former Republican congressman of Arkansas, Asa Hutchinson, was in Houston today to announce the historic creation of the department of homeland security and to officially close the department of immigration and naturalization service.

There was another major announcement made today regarding immigrants in this county. Congress has mandated that the entry/exit system for immigrants be completed by 2005. This would include immigrants from all countries, not just those from mostly Muslim countries who have already been required to complete special registrations.
