BRIEF: Institutions across Texas are again looking at affirmative action, in the wake of Monday's Supreme Court ruling that race can be used as a
factor in the college admissions process. The Court, in a 5-4 split, upheld the University of Michigan Law School's policy using race as one factor among many to distinguish between applicants. In Austin, University of Texas president Larry Faulkner declared that changes would be made in the school's approach to application review by next year to reflect the court's decision. At the University of Houston, media relations director Mike Cinelli said Monday's decision would have "no impact," and that the school would continue to exclude race from the admission process. Half of UH's 2002 fall enrollment was comprised of minorities, with close to 20 percent of that being Latino. Erika Anderson, KPFT News, Houston. E-mail Erika Anderson at eriquita5@yahoo.com .
